National Workshop on Updating the National Contingency Plan of Turkmenistan, 9-11 November 2015
Romain Chancerel is representing ITOPF at a national workshop in Turkmenistan organised by the IMO. The primary aim of the workshop is to provide assistance to the relevant authorities of Turkmenistan in order to increase familiarity with the roles and responsibilities of all tasked with implementation of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan of Turkmenistan, as approved by the President of Turkmenistan, by Decree No. 5361 on 21th August 2001.
The Workshop also aims to:
· To provide background on the technical aspects of managing a spill response and common challenges faced during an incident response.
· To discuss any necessary updates or additions to the Plan, following any developments or changes in spill risk since the plan was approved in 2001, and how these might be addressed.
· To examine integration of the National Plan with the Aktau Protocol and its Caspian Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan.
Romain will make presentations on the cause, fate and effects of spilled oil; liability and compensation and shoreline clean-up.
