GOVERNMENT & INDUSTRY COOPERATION
A Successful Response - Effective Implementation of the Contingency Plan
Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai, Thursday 29th January 2015
There's less than a week to go until the forthcoming seminar in Mumbai: 'A Successful Response - Effective Implementation of the Contingency Plan'. This key event aims to build on the successful seminars in New Delhi and Mumbai in November 2013 and March 2014 on the theme of Government and Industry collaboration for to a successful future response, and the hosts from <link http: www.oilspillresponse.com _top external link in new>OSRL and <link http: www.itopf.com _top external link in new>ITOPF are looking forward to meeting all of the delegates next Thursday at the prestigious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. So far we have over 50 registered attendees and speakers from government and industry but there are still plenty of spaces left, so if you would like to attend this special event then please follow the link at the bottom of this email to reserve a place.
Registration for the seminar will begin at 9am at the Rooftop Rendezvous at the top of the Taj Tower where you can enjoy the breath-taking views of the city and harbour. Following the welcome and introduction the seminar will commence with keynote addresses from Deputy Inspector General AA Hebbar of the Indian Coast Guard and Dr Sontakke of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to provide updates on the progress of the latest significant changes to India's draft National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP).
Throughout the day there will be sessions led by OSRL and ITOPF focusing on two key technical topics linked to the NOSDCP: the global perspective on scaling of Tier I/II/III response resources in line with spill risk and tackling HNS spills (Hazardous and Noxious Substances), and a panel discussion to include distinguished representatives of the Indian government (Indian Coast Guard and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) and industry (Indian National Shipowners Association and Cairn India) along with ITOPF and OSRL. This open discussion will provide an opportunity to identify factors to ensure effective implementation of the new NOSDCP, share perspectives on preparedness for oil and chemical spills and address questions from the delegates.
To close the seminar we will be showing two short films from ITOPF's 'Response to Marine Oil Spills Series' focusing on At-Sea Response and Shoreline Clean-Up. This will be the first public screening of these award-winning films in India, and it is hoped that the key messages delivered in the two episodes will help to confirm the importance of effective contingency planning for spills.
Following the seminar all delegates are invited to a drinks reception hosted by OSRL and ITOPF which will be held from 6pm at the Harbour Bar in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
