2021 R&D Award winners provide update on MODELRISK project
Written by 26 September 2023
We welcomed Irene Martins from CIIMAR to our office in London for an update on the winning 2021 R&D Award project - MODELRISK.
Irene gave an update on the completed project, which looked at the effects of four different Hazardous Noxious Substances (HNS) and their behaviours when spilled in sensitive marine environments such as seamounts and hydrothermal vents.
The study observed the effects to the biomass and energy fluxes in these environments and the fate of the varied HNS substances tested, floaters, sinkers and dissolvers, when released from deep ocean conditions.
It was a pleasure to welcome Irene and see the R&D Award support research into key areas of focus for the spill response industry.
The application window for our 2024 R&D award is open until 1 December 2023, with up to £60,000 available for short-term projects (1-2 years) and up to £40,000 for PhD projects plus a student stipend and university fees.
