Indian Coast Guard engages in HNS workshop with ITOPF

ITOPF spent time in Chennai, India to deliver a workshop to the Indian Coast Guard on Hazardous Noxious Substance (HNS) spill response.
Understanding the risks involved with HNS incidents is vital as, due to the chemical properties of these substances, they can escalate rapidly and include potential risks to human health and the marine environment.
ITOPF gave a detailed look at the possible on-board and off-board actions which can be taken to mitigate these risks and potential hazards, including health and safety considerations and methods for monitoring and evaluating long term effects.
These topics were interspersed with presentations on recent case studies and media engagement practices, culminating in two interactive table-top exercises to put these learnings into practice.
