ITOPF attends US Coastguard training courses
9 October 2015
ITOPF was invited by the US Coastguard (USCG) to participate in a Crisis Management course and an Incident Management System Advanced Incident Commander course (ICS 410) in Yorktown, Virginia between 14th and 24th September. Although the courses were primarily aimed at USCG personnel, industry spill response personnel from Shell, Polar Tankers and Malayan Towage & Salvage, as well as representatives from the Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) joined Miguel Patel of ITOPF as guest delegates during the two-week programme.
The Crisis Management course focused on management-level response issues and decision-making, with a particular emphasis on stakeholder perception, risk communication and media training. Meanwhile, the ICS course offered role-specific training for Incident Commanders, including simulated command meetings and in-depth discussion of the response planning cycle.
ITOPF would like to thank USCG for the invitation to participate in this excellent training event and we look forward to future opportunities to continue strengthening our working relationship.
