ITOPF contributes to 10th annual GI WACAF Conference
17 December 2024
The 10th Global Initiative for West, Central and Southern Africa (GI WACAF) Conference took place at the end of November where ITOPF attended to provide technical expertise and insight on several topics around responding to ship-source pollution events.
Held in Lomé, Togo, members of the ITOPF Technical Team delivered presentations on the definition of tier levels in emergency response and facilitated group discussion with national delegates from the GI WACAF region on risk evaluation, contingency planning, and how to conduct exercises.
During the conference, ITOPF helped facilitate a table-top exercise in which delegates were tasked with managing the response to an offshore pollution event in the form of a spill of oil from a tanker. ITOPF's multi-lingual team of Franck Laruelle, Natalie Kirk and Duarte Soares enabled a smooth running of the exercise with fluency in French, Portuguese and English.
ITOPF is proud to continue its collaborative work with GIWACAF, a joint endeavour between the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Ipieca.
