ITOPF contributes to South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) Symposium
5 December 2024
ITOPF contributed to the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) Symposium last month in collaboration with Cefas and JNCC, as part of the Ocean Country Partnership Programme, alongside Ambipar.
During the week-long event 55 delegates from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and the Maldives attended various presentations and engaged in practical sessions in spill response techniques. Groups also participated in discussions and took part in a table-top exercise that focused on regional cooperation with an aim to update the regional contingency plan. There was also a site visit and an equipment demonstration from the Sri Lankan Coast Guard.
ITOPF helped facilitate the technical sessions and table-top exercise, as well as delivering presentations on examples of regional cooperation around the world, lessons learned from recent incidents in the region, case studies in command and collaboration, as well as claims and compensation arising from ship-source pollution events.
