ITOPF in Brazil
11 September 2017
Mark Whittington and Miguel Patel have just returned from Brazil where they attended a series of meetings and events.
From 31st August - 1st September, they supported the 2017 International Oil Spill Seminar hosted jointly by Transpetro, the UK Club and ITOPF. This successful event attracted a large gathering of both industry and government personnel. ITOPF gave presentations on our role, environmental and fisheries issues, and a recent case study. On the second day of the seminar, Miguel and Mark ran a spill response and claims exercise for Transpetro staff and a few invitees.
ITOPF then moved on to the capital Brasilia where the team met with the President of Brazil's federal environment agency, IBAMA, and had a series of meetings with staff from the Environmental Emergency department. We also re-ran our desk-top exercise for a gathering of representatives from the many different government agencies in Brazil who would be involved in a large pollution incident.
The final event of the trip involved a visit to the Petrobras Research Center, where ITOPF met with some of the technical team at this extensive R&D facility.
