Three-day oil pollution workshop held in Tampico, Mexico
6 November 2024
Members of the ITOPF Technical Team delivered a three-day workshop in Tampico, Mexico for delegates from the National Maritime Authority SEMAR (Primera Región Naval), Local Government Authorities, spill response contractors, and local university representatives.
Angela Pinzón, Miguel Ciriero, and Marta Panero delivered the workshop and carried out a desktop exercise, which incorporates the use of a new Mixed-Reality (MR) spill response app, allowing participants to plan the clean-up resources in a number of virtual environments affected by oil pollution.
The workshop focused on several aspects of pollution response, including an introduction to ITOPF and its role on site as well as the expertise it offers for claims assessments and contingency planning.
While in country, the team also met with PEMEX in Mexico City, with more than 100 attendees, joining online and in-person. The team delivered a presentation on the role of ITOPF followed by a Q&A session with the group.
